Dr. Linda Demaine, JD, PhD

Dr. Linda Demaine, JD, PhD is the Roslyn O. Silver Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O-Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.  She holds a J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Arizona State University, where she studied persuasion and interpersonal influence under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Cialdini.
Professor Demaine’s research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of law and social psychology.  She is the founding editor of the NYU Press Psychology of Law book series, which informs core areas of legal doctrine and procedure with psychological theory and research.  For more than a decade, Professor Demaine has taught a unique and over-subscribed seminar on Cults and Alternative Religions that addresses the psychological and legal issues generated by high-demand groups. 

In 2005, she founded the Law and Psychology J.D./Ph.D. program, a joint venture of the college and ASU’s Department of Psychology that focuses on the analysis and improvement of law and public policy.
